Albert and Maxine Hughes Scholarship in Sociology
In 1998, the Hughes family established an endowed scholarship in the name of Dr. Albert Hughes. This scholarship recognizes his 30 years of teaching and service to both the Department of Sociology and Appalachian State University. The scholarship provides tuition assistance to rising sociology juniors and seniors who display academic excellence and regular involvement in service or volunteer activities beyond academic accomplishments.
Eligibility: Full-time sociology majors who are rising juniors or seniors with a GPA of 3.0 or higher are eligible to apply. Eligible students will also demonstrate regular involvement in service or volunteer activities in their time at App State.

Ann Louise Page Endowment for Excellence in Sociology
The Ann Louise Page Endowment for Excellence in Sociology was established in 2020 through a generous gift from Dr. Ann Page's estate. The endowment recognizes Dr. Page's longtime contributions to the Department of Sociology, where she taught for more than 30 years until her retirement in 2009. In recognition of Dr. Page's outstanding contributions to research, the endowment provides scholarship awards that recognize research excellence and support research efforts.
The Ann Louise Page Endowment for Excellence in Sociology supports two opportunities for undergraduate sociology majors:
- The Ann Louise Page Scholarship for Undergraduate Research Excellence in Sociology
- Ann Louise Page Fund for Undergraduate Research
Janice Rienerth Endowment for Sociology
In 2014, Dr. Rienerth established an endowed scholarship ensure that her passion for civic engagement and higher education are carried forward. The scholarship recognizes her 42 years of teaching and service to the Department, Appalachian State University and the larger community. The scholarship provides tuition assistance to rising sociology seniors who display academic excellence and are pursuing a career in higher education or the nonprofit sector.
Eligibility: Sociology majors who are rising seniors are eligible to apply.
