Rachel Shertzer-Skinner (Gerontology MA '09) is part of a research team at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center that recently published results from their study of the effect of Vitamin D on falls reduction in homebound elderly. The results, published in the early online edition (8/16/2015) of the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, showed that over the 5-month study, Vitamin D supplements were correlated with a 50% reduction in falls compared to a control group that did not receive supplements.
