This year, our Fall 2024 class of Applied Sociology, under the supervision of Dr Freeland, has been tasked with two new projects to tackle hands-on. Applied Sociology is a course in Sociology that a sociology major needs to be able to apply for internships and their capstone before graduating. The course involves learning the history, value, and rationale of experiential learning, personal values discovery and skills assessment, exploring career options requiring sociological skills, developing job-seeking skills and preparing for an internship, learning to turn academic education into job transferable skills, and applying sociological skills in the work environment. Overall, the students are getting a hands-on experience of how it would be to operate in a sociological workplace.
This semester, the Fall 24 class of 12 students is tasked with a research project that will benefit AppState’s campus in one shape or form and a social media campaign that hopes to revitalize the Sociology department for current and future students and faculty/staff. The social media projects include promoting the sociology department (includes the students, faculty, internships, majors, and concentrations), the sociology club and sociology as a whole. The platforms used will include Twitter, Meta (Instagram & Facebook), TikTok and this website. These platforms will all have content that caters to their platform and society about the Soc department. The social media handles are linked below.
