Dr. Amy Dellinger Page: Recipient of the W.H. Plemmons Leadership Award

Dr. Amy Dellinger Page, Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Sociology, was awarded the W.H. Plemmons Leadership Medallion for her work as an advocate for students and creating a safe campus. Below is a description of this prestigious award:

The W. H. Plemmons Leadership Medallion, named in honor of Dr. William H. Plemmons who served as the second president of the University from 1955 to 1969, was established by an action of the Appalachian State University Board of Trustees in 1996. The award was created to recognize the time, energy, skills, and commitment of students, faculty, student development educators and staff who exceed their peers in providing leadership that enriches the quality of student life and advances the education of students.

Dr. Page has demonstrated these qualities through a number of service projects. These include her dedicated work with ASUnity, Multicultural Student Development, Interpersonal Violence Steering Committee and Council, the Chancellor's Commission on Diversity, Campus Safety Council, and the University Transgender Housing Policy Task Force. In each of these efforts, Dr. Page has tirelessly worked to create safe spaces and security for students, faculty, and staff who face adversity at App State, as well as in the broader community.

The Department of Sociology congratulates Dr. Page on her award and thanks her for stepping up to be a champion of tackling social inequality and bringing about social justice!
