On July 24, 2019, Dr. Felicia Arriaga, assistant professor of Sociology, participated in a panel discussion of prominent women of color scholars and politicians to discuss how North Carolina's politics and policies are changing in the 21st century. This was an open event for North Carolina citizens and legislators to discuss important issues facing the area and to discuss how to build alliances across a growing and diverse state population. Arriaga spoke to her community organizing and scholarly efforts to highlight the issues surrounding immigration and local law enforcement. Other panelists included State Representatives Sydney Batch and Jean Farmer-Butterfield, as well as Drs. Erica Payton and Nina Smith. This event was hosted by the NC Legislative Black Caucus and the North Carolina Scholars Strategy Network.
