Sociology Club Works to Expand Their Reach

Sociology Club is a student-led organization committed to society through group discussions, volunteer programs, and fundraising opportunities. It is a great way to connect with fellow sociology students and students who are interested in learning more about sociology. The current president is Ella Kuhn, a third-year Sociology student with a concentration in criminology. Her personal mission for the club is to give people in the sociology department a community and sense of belonging, just like the club gave her when she was a freshman, and to inspire philanthropy for the community around us.

So far this semester, they have taken inventory of the department’s food pantry, elected new executive members, and held a documentary screening. Next week, in the student union, they will be tabling a food drive for the MANNA (Mountain Area Nutritional Needs Alliance) food bank in Asheville.

The Sociology Club meets every Monday at 4 pm in Chapell Wilson, room 206. The best way to connect is to join on their Engage page, after which Ms Kuhn will add you to their email list with weekly reminders about the meetings. People can also reach out directly to Ella by emailing me at kuhnel@appstate.edu and follow our social media @appstatesoclub
