Sociology Students Travel to Cherokee to Learn about Indigenous People of North Carolina

Dr. Anastacia Schulhoff's SOC 4560 Race and Ethnicity class took a field trip to Cherokee, North Carolina. Students explored the oftentimes hidden racial histories that reside in their own backyards, as well as examining the political, economic, and social issues Indigenous people continue to face. The field trip included a visit of the Cherokee Historical Museum and a guided discussion by local Cherokee tribe members. Students suggested it was a great day to learn, bond with one another, and take away several intellectual insights concerning race relations in North Carolina and the United States
