Welcoming New Faculty! Dr. Robert Perdue

Dr. Robert Perdue joins the App State Sociology faculty as an assistant professor.

Robert received his PhD from the University of Florida. Prior to arriving at ASU, he completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in the Appalachia Studies Program at Virginia Tech, in conjunction the Natural Resource Governance Institute. Robert's research focuses on the paradox of the resource curse: Why do communities with great natural resource wealth tend to have elevated rates of poverty and unemployment? Most of this work has focused on Appalachia and coal extraction. Currently, he is broadening this research to include multiple resources at the global scale with the aim of revealing patterns and mechanisms of the curse. The ultimate goal of this work is to produce data that can help resource-rich communities make decisions that lead to more sustainable economies.

Welcome to App State, Dr. Perdue!
