Ed Rosenberg received his PhD in sociology from the University of Southern California in 1978, then developed and directed gerontology programs at Western Washington University, the University of Pittsburgh (Bradford), and LaRoche College. He taught at Appalachian State
University from 1991-2020, directing master’s degree programs in sociology and gerontology and developing graduate certificates in sociology and gerontology. His global aging interests led to a 2004-2005 exchange professorship in France, then to ongoing gerontology collaborations in
France, Thailand, and Nepal. He is a Fellow of the University of North Carolina Institute on Aging, a past president of the 14-state Southern Gerontological Society (SGS), and a recipient of both SGS’s Academic Gerontologist Award and the Association for Gerontology in Higher
Education’s Distinguished Service Award. He served in the North Carolina Senior Tar Heel Legislature for nine years and joined the Governor’s Advisory Council on Aging, which he now chairs, in Fall 2019. He and his wife Judy live in Boone.
